Zero waste fashion project
GGMODA 2015 Awards
This fashion design project embodies a commitment to eco-design, prioritizing sustainability at every stage of the garment’s life cycle. The designer implemented a methodology aimed at minimizing environmental impact, from the initial design phase through to the garment’s eventual disposal. Central to this approach is the use of the “zero waste” technique, where the pattern cutting process was meticulously planned so that all pieces of the garment utilize 100% of the fabric’s cutting area. This ensures that no textile waste is generated during production.
The garment is constructed from a single material: 100% wool. This monomaterial choice not only simplifies the recycling process but also allows the entire wool fabric to be recycled into new wool fiber once the garment’s useful life comes to an end. By focusing on a timeless and versatile design that transcends fleeting fashion trends, the designer has created a piece that extends its usability and lifespan. This project underscores the belief that the longevity of a garment is determined by both the quality of the materials and the deliberate, thoughtful choices made during the design process.
