Resignificar el blanco exhibition is a sustainable fashion project presented at the Museo del Traje in Madrid. Developed as part of the 11th Edition of the Month of Emerging Design, the show will be on view from 3 to 29 June 2025. It has been created by third-year students of the Fashion Design BA at the Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny de Castelló, under the guidance of lecturer Elena Cuadrado within the Costume Design for Performance module.

The exhibition Resignificar el blanco offers a contemporary reinterpretation of traditional Spanish dress through a sustainable lens. Inspired by the museum’s foundational collections, the garments explore themes of heritage, memory and identity. Sustainability is the central axis of the project, which uses discarded textiles from the hospitality industry—such as bedsheets and bedspreads—as the raw material for the designs.
White, historically confined to undergarments or functional clothing, is redefined here as a conceptual and expressive element, becoming the central protagonist. Far from limiting creativity, the monochrome palette of white becomes a driving force for conceptual depth and aesthetic expression.
Beyond the fashion design work, the project also stands out for the quality of its exhibition design, developed by first-year students of the Interior Design BA. Among several proposals, the design by Light Ihuoma Iheanyi Anyanwu was selected for its ability to enhance textures, volumes and structures through strategic use of colour and lighting. The photoshoot was carried out by first-year students from the Photography Vocational Programme, offering a coherent and sensitive visual narrative.
Resignificar el blanco exhibition was selected from over twenty submissions by design schools across Spain, including IED, UDIT, CSDMM, Mestre Mateo, and Escuela de Arte 3. The jury, composed of professionals from the sector such as Pepa Bueno (President of ACME) and designer Armiche Rodríguez, particularly valued the conceptual strength of the project, the development of the looks and the quality of the dossier.
